I like Ace because the people at my local store actually can answer questions. The store is small enough that they know their products. Prices are average, but you can get some great deals when they have sales.

old-town feel in a hardware store
This is one of the only old-town general store feel establishments still around. They are less common than Home Depot or Lowe's, so you may have to drive further to get there, but it is worth it. There is a very knowledgeable associate in every dept ready to help and answer questions. They are friendly and will take you around the store to find what you need. They also have a garden dept. Not always as cheap as the big box stores, but a much better experience.

I order online and have sent to my local ace hardware and am very impressed by the customer service I receive. If you find something cheaper somewhere else, just tell them and chances are they will meet the price.

I go here pretty frequently for everything I need for projects around the house. They have a great selection at decent prices. The customer service is pretty good too; if you can't find something you need they will usually order it for you. They are knowledgeable and helpful.
