Alienware has been making excellent gaming laptops for many years now, starting long before Dell acquired the company. While Alienware gaming laptops were always very powerful and packed with features, they were always relatively big and heavy
notebooks that were not so easily portable.
This has changed now as Dell has introduced the brand-new Alienware M11x, and ultra mobile gaming laptop. Best of all it offers a high-def screen, fast graphics, many features, and a price that starts at only $799.
It is also very compact and portable, with a weight of under 4.5 pounds. Yet it also features an incredible battery life of up to 8.5 hours. These a both very impressive stats given the low price and high performance of the Alienware M11x laptop.
Two of the best features of this laptop are the display and the graphics accelerator chips.
The screen on the Alienware M11x is an 11.6" high definition (720p HD) widescreen WLED display with a resolution of 1366x768. The graphics card is an impressive 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M graphics accelerator, which can deliver up to 30 times better performance (with PhysX technology and accelerated GPU features in Window 7) and enable hyper-realistic gameplay.
Although the base $799 configuration of the Alienware M11x is very impressive, there are a couple upgrades to consider to make a great system even better.
One upgrade is to go to the Intel Core2 Duo SU7300 1.3GHz (3MB Cache) processor, which is a $100 more than the base Intel Pentium SU4100 1.3GHz CPU. Another good investment for many people would be to pay $50 to upgrade to 4GB of dual-channel 800MHz DDR3 memory instead of the base 2GB of memory.
